Digital Stone FAQs
What types of maquette/models can you work
from?
We can work from a digital
file, a solid maquette (plaster, foam, wax, clay, etc.), an object,
an architectural rendering, an artist’s sketch or a concept
to get things started. Scanning and digitization from a model, object
or maquette requires the object or maquette not be made from a transparent
or not-solid material. (Transparent models can be spray painted
in order to scan them.)
How can I get a quote on a project idea I
have?
The complexity of the form, the type of stone, the size
of the piece and the amount of finish work expected are all variables
that affect the quoted price. We can begin a quote for you by email;
you can email images of your model/maquette (several different views)
and information on the scale of the finished work (height, width
and depth), the type of material desired (marble, granite, limestone,
etc. color or other specs.), and the type of finish desired (do
you want it polished or hand finished by our staff or do you want
it right off the machines for you to hand finish? Do you want it
sandblasted, flamed, etc?). Please also make note of any deadlines
you may have. Send the information to info@digitalstoneproject.org
(please specify quote request in the subject line of your email).
How do you price use of the facility?
- Machine use, scanning, computer
programming and labor costs are about $100-$150 per hour, or a
day rate (for a 24 hour day) of $1000-$1500 per day. The machines
can run 24 hours a day, so the day rate is a great deal for machine-intensive
projects.
- Hand work by our staff:
finishing, polishing, etc. is priced at $65 per hour. Clients
may specify if they prefer to do the finishing of a piece on their
own. We are happy to just “rough out” the stone and
save you the cost of our staff hand finishing the piece, if that
is what you prefer.
- Material costs vary by material
and are charged by the cubic foot.
- We do not do installations,
but can refer and work with experienced installers.
- We can also perform crating
and arrange for shipping of the finished work.
